When It comes to buying gifts for loved one’s I’m a little rubbish at it…I prefer making something for them and they always love it a ton more.
This is going to be a gift to my valentine. Although he has a lovely apartment, like most new homes it’s lacking a personal touch. It’s also a little dark (Britain in general!) and needs lightening up.
You will need:
- MDF board (homebase/hardware stores) A good size, not too big and not too thick.
- Spray paint - Hardware store
- Cardboard – For letter guides
- Panel Pins – You don’t want them to be too thick or long. Nice slim ones will do
- Hammer and Scissors
- String/Thread – There’s no rules to this part, you can go crazy with all the colours of the rainbow!
Place your MDF board on top some newspaper preferably outside to avoid mess and spray your board making sure of even coverage. Leave to dry then
Once it’s dry cut your letters out of cardboard arrange them on your board being sure all are completely straight with no wonkyness (that’s not a word) going on.
With a pencil and using your cardboard letters as a guide, dot all the way around the letters where you want your nails , when you’re done marking you can remove the letters.
Start nailing! You don’t want them too far in, just enough so it’s secure and wont fall out.
The fun part! Weaving in, out, around, anyway you want. I like to criss cross like a shoelace then loop all the way around the outside then add other colours and go all over over the place.
This project doesn’t take too long to make apart from the waiting for the paint to dry. You can try lots of different ideas, using pictures too, If your really skilled you could attempt a portrait. Using your thread to create an ombre effect would look great too. Have fun!
Oh and why did I choose Clank? Well….DON’T LAUGH!.. Cla first half of my name and ‘ank’ second half of his, Bet you can’t guess what it is? =P
